For the first three years she and her husband Fred Edwards operated the service 24 hours seven days a week without any outside assistance. In 1957, Mrs. Edwards hired her first employee on a part time basis; this gave Betty and Fred a much needed break two afternoons a week.
By 1958, the service had grown to hundreds of clients and the telephone company installed state-of-the-art switchboards. This innovation in technology allowed the company to expand outside of Manchester, into Rockville.
In 1963, Mrs. Edwards moved her company from her dining room to its current location at 230 Hartford Turnpike, Vernon, CT. In the new location, Mrs. Edwards aggressively marketed and sold the service to new clients, and the business prospered and grew.
In 1980, Mrs. Edwards’ son and current company president, Gary Edwards, joined the business. During the 1980s Betty and Gary teamed up to acquire other answering services in Manchester, East Hartford, Enfield, Bridgeport, Milford, Guilford, and Madison. Rapid growth in the business demanded faster more efficient equipment, prompting EASE to utilize electronic computer equipment – the first company in the local area to do so. Since that time EASE has been a nationwide leader in the use of computer technology in the telephone answering service industry.
In 1994 EASE initiated an 800 service to process merchandise orders for clients advertising products on television, newspapers, or mail order. Although the 800 order processing service required a completely different computer system and software, EASE was again able to totally integrate the new service into a single computer work station!
Today EASE utilizes the latest Telescan server driven telecommunication systems. With its current setup, EASE has the ability to backup crucial client data in real-time, ensuring nothing is lost! Backed by UPS battery backup and a large capacity generator, EASE is 100% power independent, even during the worst weather and disaster related circumstances!
